 Following on from my Notre Dame within squares, I have done a development and played around with the size and composition of the squares. I think it is more exciting, but because I have used more subtle colours rather than just all black it is less intense...

Below is a paper sample i did where i painted the background and squares with water colour, then filled them in with drawn lace, which i did with brown ink. To get the contrast of scale i then chose a previous drawing i did and used screen wash to apply. The screen was gives it that vintage old look, but its a shame it doesn't work with coloured photocopies!

 Here is a fabric sample i did, based on the one above i have played around with blocked in squares, repeat pattern...soon time to start my final samples!!
